How to play Arrow Unspool

  1. Press Play to open your saved board or the first journey puzzle. The menu also offers all 150 levels, Daily and Endless.
  2. Find an arrowhead and trace a straight lane from it to the edge. Check every part of the other arrows along that lane.
  3. Tap or click any part of a clear arrow to send it out. Its body follows through the bends behind its head.
  4. If an arrow bumps another path, clear the obstruction first. The red arrow returns to its starting position and can leave when its lane opens.
  5. Use Hint to highlight a safe departure, Undo to restore your previous move, or Retry to start the same board again.
  6. Remove every arrow. View your stars, copy your result, replay for a cleaner solve or continue to the next puzzle.

Make your move

On your computer

  • Click an arrow’s head or body to send it. Drag empty board space to pan.
  • Scroll over the board, use the zoom slider, or press In and Out to zoom. Fit restores the full board.
  • Arrow keys move keyboard focus between arrows. Enter or Space sends the focused arrow.
  • U or Ctrl+Z undoes, H gives a hint, R retries, and P or Escape pauses.

On your phone or tablet

  • Tap any part of an arrow. The nearest path under your finger is selected.
  • Drag with one finger to pan and pinch with two fingers to zoom. In, Out and Fit provide the same controls without gestures.
  • Undo, Hint and Retry stay below the board. Portrait, landscape and optional fullscreen are supported.

About Arrow Unspool

Arrow Unspool is a free browser arrow puzzle about finding a clear lane through a tangle of winding paths. Each colored line has a tail and an arrowhead. Tap anywhere along it and the head tries to travel straight in the direction it points. If that lane is clear, the rest of the line follows the head through every corner until the entire arrow leaves the board. A long hooked arrow does not slide sideways as one solid piece: it unwinds, with its tail tracing exactly the same route. Clear every arrow to finish the puzzle and reveal the chapter’s illustrated emblem.

The journey contains 150 original fixed boards in six chapters: First light, Blue hour, Wildflower, Tidepool, Starlight and Open sky. The first boards introduce arrow direction, winding tails and the way a distant obstruction can block a lane. Later layouts become denser and contain longer dependency chains. You might need to remove an arrow at the bottom before one near the top can leave, which then opens a route across the middle. The smallest boards use a five by five grid; the largest use eighteen columns and twenty-two rows. Zoom and pan let you inspect a crowded area without losing track of the whole puzzle.

Classic gives you three hearts. An arrow whose lane is blocked moves toward the first obstruction, flashes red, and returns. That arrow’s first mistake costs one heart. It stays red as a reminder, and tapping that same blocked arrow again does not take another heart. Once its lane is clear, it can leave normally. Running out of hearts offers an immediate retry or a free undo. Relaxed mode, available in the menu, removes the heart limit for your next puzzle while keeping the same boards, movement and collision rules. Neither mode has a timer.

Stars reward a clean solve. Finish without a bump or hint to earn three, finish with a bump and no hint to earn two, or use a hint and finish for one. A hint highlights an arrow that has a clear lane right now; it does not move the arrow for you. Undo restores the previous departure or first bump, including the heart that was lost. A used hint remains part of the attempt. Your best star result on each journey board is kept, so replaying with a lower result never takes earned stars away. All 150 boards can be selected from the level menu.

The Daily puzzle is determined by its displayed UTC date and stays the same for every player on that date. Solving on consecutive UTC days builds a streak. Replaying a daily can improve its stars without counting as another day, and the copy-result button shares the date, stars, bumps and hints without revealing the solution. Endless starts a new seeded sequence of boards that grows in size as you clear them. Each board is checked for a departure order before it is shown. Removing a legal arrow only removes obstructions, so choosing a different legal exit cannot create a new deadlock.

The game uses original vector artwork: raised colored shafts, rounded bends, clear arrowheads, small grid dots and six illustrated emblems. Direction is shown by shape, so solving never depends on distinguishing two colors. Extra contrast is available in the menu, and your device’s reduced-motion preference makes departures and rebounds immediate while retaining all the rules. Progress, an unfinished board, journey stars, daily results and settings are saved in this browser when local storage is available. There is no account and progress does not sync across devices. Sound is synthesized locally and can be switched off at any time.

Every bend follows

Glossy arrows unwind along their own paths. Long U-turns and S-bends straighten behind the head, while blocked arrows bump the first obstruction and return to their exact starting position.

150 original tangles

Six chapters grow from small introductory boards to dense 18 by 22 layouts. Every board has a verified solution, and the later chapters have longer chains of arrows waiting for one another.

A fresh daily, free help

Everyone receives the same board for each UTC date. Keep a daily streak, copy a spoiler-free result, or switch to Endless for a new sequence. Hints and undo never need coins.

A little help for your next high score

  • The direction of the arrowhead matters more than the shape of the body. A downward-pointing head always exits downward.
  • Check distant parts of the lane. A tail near the far edge can block an arrow just as effectively as a head next to it.
  • Work backward from an obstruction until you find a clear arrow. Removing it can open several lanes.
  • Zoom into a dense region, then use Fit before deciding which part of the board to work on next.
  • Any legal exit is safe. Take your time, use undo to inspect a move again, and replay a board when you want three stars.

Good questions

What is the goal of Arrow Unspool?

Clear every winding arrow from the board. Each head travels straight in the direction it points, and the body follows its path through the bends. Another arrow anywhere in that lane blocks the departure.

How do hearts and red arrows work?

Classic starts with three hearts. The first blocked tap on an arrow costs one heart and marks that arrow red. Repeated taps on the same blocked arrow do not cost more hearts. It can leave normally when its lane clears. Relaxed mode removes the heart limit.

Are all 150 puzzles solvable?

Yes. Every fixed journey board and every generated daily or Endless board has a verified departure order. Removing a legal arrow cannot make a solvable board impossible, because it only removes obstructions.

Are hints and undo free?

Yes. Hint highlights a legal exit, and Undo restores your previous move. Hints reduce the stars for that attempt to one; undo itself has no cost. There are no coins or paid boosters.

When does the daily puzzle change?

It changes at midnight UTC. The displayed date identifies the board. Consecutive daily solves build a streak, and replaying the same date can improve its stars without adding another day.

Can I play on my phone and save progress?

Yes. The game supports touch in portrait and landscape, including pinch zoom and drag to pan. It saves progress in this browser when local storage is available. It does not require an account or sync progress between devices.
