How to play Dude Cargo Chaos

  1. From the harbor office choose Continue, the dispatch board, the daily delivery or the garage. Each route briefing lists the cargo, the hazards and the times for three stars and the master badge.
  2. Hold W or Up, or DRIVE on touch, to accelerate. Steer with A and D, the arrow keys or the LEFT and RIGHT pads. Brake with S or Down; keep holding it to reverse.
  3. Before bends, bumps, gusts and landings, hold Space or tap MAGNET to pin the load. Hold Shift or BOOST for speed and for longer jumps. Both drain the same battery, which recharges when you let go.
  4. Read the hazards. Wait for carts and forklifts to pass, go as a crane load swings away from your lane, stop at a lowered barrier until the drawbridge is down, and ease off on oil, puddles and waves.
  5. If you get stuck or fall in, Recover (R) returns you to the last lamp. It costs five seconds, plus one parcel when more than one remains. Losing every parcel or running out of shift time ends the delivery.
  6. Brake in the striped bay at the far end to unload. The results card shows your time, the cargo you kept, the score, credits and any new vehicles or districts.

Make your move

On your computer

  • W or Up: drive. A/D or Left/Right: steer. S or Down: brake, then reverse.
  • Space (hold): cargo magnet. Shift (hold): boost while driving.
  • R: recover to the last checkpoint. P or Escape: pause. C: switch between the chase and high cameras. M: mute.
  • Gamepad: left stick steers, right trigger drives, left trigger brakes, A holds the magnet, X boosts, B recovers, Start pauses.
  • Menus work with Tab, Enter and Escape.

On your phone or tablet

  • LEFT and RIGHT on the left side steer. DRIVE and BRAKE sit under your right thumb.
  • Tap MAGNET once to latch it and again to release it. Hold BOOST while driving.
  • The gauge button turns on Cruise, a gentle automatic throttle. BRAKE cancels it. It can also be switched on at the start of every delivery in Settings.
  • Portrait and landscape both work. Portrait phones get a taller view that looks further up the road. The fullscreen button gives the most room.

About Dude Cargo Chaos

Dude Cargo Chaos is a 3D delivery game about a small truck with an open bed and a load that would rather be somewhere else. You drive from the loading depot to a striped delivery bay across a miniature harbor. Whatever is still in the bed when you stop is delivered. The trouble is how the load behaves. Parcels hold still while you drive gently. Push them harder than their grip allows and they slide, knock into each other and slam against the rails. A hard slide, or a parcel bounced up by cobbles or a landing, can go right over the side. Everything in the world, from the truck and its driver to the cranes, carts and water, is original procedural artwork drawn in the browser.

The cargo magnet is your main tool. Hold it and every parcel is pulled back to its place and pressed onto the bed. It shares one battery with boost, which gives extra speed and is needed for the longer jumps. Releasing both lets the battery recharge, and teal charging strips on some routes top it up while you drive over them. Deciding when to hold the magnet and when to save battery for a boost is what each delivery comes down to.

There are eight kinds of cargo. Timber crates are steady. Steel drums roll sideways in bends. Glassware breaks on hard knocks and rough landings. Ice blocks slide at the slightest nudge and lose value as they melt. Steel coils are heavy, slow the truck and roll toward the tailgate when you pull away. Harbor buoys are light, so they bounce on bumps and drift in the wind. Live lobsters shuffle their crate about on their own. Pressure tanks pop when slammed and knock the parcels around them.

The forty routes are spread across five districts. Harbor Yard keeps the eight original routes. The Fish Market adds cobbles, humpback canal bridges, market carts and wet stones. The Container Terminal brings forklifts, straddle carriers, swinging crane loads and a first jump between quays. The Storm Pier has side gusts, waves washing over the deck and oil on the loading area. The Night Shipyard, lit by lamps and your headlights, adds drawbridges with barriers, a slipway jump and a final route that combines everything. Each district opens once you have earned enough stars.

One star means you delivered at least one parcel. Two stars need at least sixty percent of the cargo value. Three stars need every parcel inside the route's gold time, and a stricter master time earns an anchor badge. A careful test autopilot drove every route to three stars, and every master time has been beaten by one of the test drivers. Deliveries earn credits for four small workshop upgrades: engine, springs, rubber bed mats and battery. None of them are needed to win. Stars unlock four more vehicles, and each one handles differently. The daily delivery always uses a stock truck, so every player drives the same route in the same truck, and it tracks your streak. Progress stays in this browser, and stars from the earlier eight-route version carry over.

Forty routes, five districts

Harbor Yard, the Fish Market canals, the Container Terminal, the Storm Pier and the Night Shipyard. Each district brings its own hazards and cargo, and every route has three stars and a master time.

Cargo that behaves like cargo

Crates grip the bed, drums roll, ice slides and melts, coils roll fore and aft, buoys ride the wind, lobsters shuffle their crate and pressure tanks pop when slammed. Parcels collide with each other, hop on cobbles and tip over the rails.

Five trucks and a daily route

Unlock a quick van, a tall-railed hauler, an electric cart with a huge battery and a rally pickup with soft springs. A fresh daily delivery waits every day, the same route for everyone.

A little help for your next high score

  • Slow down before a bend, not in it. Parcels stay put below their grip limit, so a smooth line keeps everything in place even without the magnet.
  • Use the magnet in short bursts: through bends, over cobbles, in gusts and while airborne. Let go on straights so there is battery left for boost and the next corner.
  • Pull away gently with coils and ice aboard. Flooring it from a standstill sends them sliding toward the tailgate.
  • At a jump, line up straight before the ramp, keep plenty of battery and hold BOOST all the way up. Switch the magnet on in the air to protect the landing.
  • Waiting costs less time than a collision. Stop short of crossing traffic, watch it pass once, then go.

Good questions

How do I keep cargo from falling off?

Drive smoothly and brake before bends, because parcels only slide once cornering, braking or acceleration beats their grip. Hold Space or tap MAGNET through bends, bumps, gusts and landings to pin the load down. Low-rail trucks lose cargo more easily than the tall-railed hauler.

How many routes and stars are there?

There are 40 routes in five districts, so 120 stars in total. Each route also has a master time with an anchor badge. Districts open at 10, 26, 44 and 62 stars, and within a district each route opens once the previous one is delivered.

How do I unlock the other trucks and upgrades?

The Gull van unlocks at 10 stars, the Bollard hauler at 24, the Tern electric cart at 44 and the Mako rally pickup at 68. Deliveries earn credits for engine, springs, bed-mat and battery upgrades. Every route can be won with the stock Dockhand and no upgrades.

What is the daily delivery?

It is a new route generated for each calendar day. Everyone gets the same layout and drives a stock Dockhand. Each daily route was driven cleanly by the test autopilot before it is offered. Finishing it on consecutive days builds your streak, and your best score for the day is saved.

Is my progress saved, and did I keep my old stars?

Stars, times, credits, vehicles and settings are stored in this browser's local storage. Stars and scores from the earlier eight-route version carry over to the first eight routes, with starter credits for each star. Clearing browser data removes the record.
