How to play Axle Arena

  1. Open Practice match, choose a team size and match duration, then press Kick off. League road starts or resumes a season.
  2. Wait for the kickoff count. Your team is blue and attacks the coral goal. Use W A S D, arrow keys or the left touch joystick to drive.
  3. Approach the ball from the side opposite the direction you want it to travel. The speed and angle of the car determine the contact.
  4. Hold Shift or BOOST for extra acceleration, and collect gold pads to refill the meter. Press Space or JUMP to leave the ground, hold it to rise higher, and press it again in the air to double-jump or, with a direction held, to flip.
  5. Use F or the camera button to switch between ball and forward views. Climb the rounded banks to reach balls along the arena walls.
  6. Complete the match to record points, cash and XP. In league play, continue to the season table and the next round.

Make your move

On your computer

  • W A S D or arrow keys accelerate, brake, reverse and steer. Shift holds boost. Space jumps (hold for height); press it again in the air to double-jump, or with a direction held to flip.
  • In the air, W and S tip the nose down and up, A and D turn, and Q and E roll left and right. On the ground, hold Q or E to powerslide.
  • F changes between ball and forward camera. P or Escape pauses the match, and M toggles sound.
  • Tab moves through menus; Enter and Space activate focused buttons. Select match size and duration before kickoff.

On your phone or tablet

  • Drag the left joystick up to accelerate, down to reverse and sideways to steer.
  • Hold BOOST with a second finger to spend the boost tank shown by its ring. Tap JUMP to leave the current surface, and tap it again in the air with the stick pushed to flip that way.
  • Hold SLIDE to powerslide. In the air, SLIDE turns sideways stick movement into a roll.
  • Tap the camera button to change view, and use the pause button to stop play or access settings. Portrait and landscape layouts are supported.

About Axle Arena

Axle Arena is a free 3D car-soccer game played in a grass stadium enclosed by curved banks, high walls and safety netting. You control the blue team’s lead car. The objective is to push the ball into the coral goal before the match clock runs out. Instead of selecting a shot from a menu, you create it by driving into the ball at the right speed and angle. A gentle touch can keep it close, a fast straight impact can carry it across the pitch, and a glancing collision changes its direction. The ball moves through the same arena throughout the match.

The car has a sprung chassis, four moving wheels, steering and a rotating body. Accelerating builds speed quickly at first and then levels off, releasing the throttle lets the vehicle coast, and driving against your current direction brakes hard before reversing. Boost adds strong acceleration and burns a full tank in under two seconds. Small gold pads add a little; the six large pads, marked by a floating orb, refill the tank and take longer to return. Hold boost on a long straight and the car goes supersonic, shown by light trails and the speed readout. A supersonic car that drives nose-first through an opponent demolishes it, and that car respawns three seconds later; slower contact bumps a car aside instead.

A tap of jump gives a short hop, and holding the button lifts the car higher. A jump pushes the car away from the surface under its wheels, so jumping from a wall behaves differently from jumping on the turf. Press jump again in the air for a second jump, or hold a direction as you press it to flip the car that way: a forward flip throws it along the turf and hits the ball much harder than driving into it, and pulling back during the flip cancels its spin. While airborne, forward and back tip the nose down and up, steering turns the car, and Q and E or the touch SLIDE pad roll it. On the ground the same keys powerslide, loosening the rear tyres for a tighter turn. If the car lands on its roof, a jump press rolls it back onto its wheels, and a stranded car recovers by itself.

The boundaries are part of play. A car can drive up the rounded bank and continue onto the vertical arena wall. The ball also rebounds from those surfaces, opening up banked passes and awkward high rebounds. The goal has a solid frame and a recessed tunnel, so an impact against a post is a physical collision rather than an automatic score. A goal is awarded after the complete ball passes the goal line inside the opening. The ball then detonates, throwing nearby cars clear, and the floodlights and the scoring side of the crowd celebrate. Celebration and the next kickoff take place on the match clock, and each kickoff places the cars on mirrored spots, so both teams start the same distance from the ball. If both teams have the same score at full time, the game starts sudden-death overtime and the next goal decides the match.

Practice offers one, two or three cars per side and one-, two- or three-minute matches. Computer drivers chase the ball, swing around it to shoot toward the right goal, support their teammates, retreat into defence, flip into shots, powerslide through tight turns and jump for reachable airborne balls. Their cars use the same collision, movement and boost rules as yours. You can change between a ball camera that keeps the developing play ahead of you and a forward camera that follows the car’s heading. The first view is useful for tracking a rebound; the second can make wall approaches or a tight driving correction easier to judge.

League play puts your team into a ten-club season. The schedule contains nine rounds, with one match against each other team. Each league fixture uses three cars per side and a two-minute clock. The standings record games played, wins, draws, losses, goal difference and points. Completed rounds and their results remain saved on the device, so a season can continue across visits. A top-three finish in Beginners opens Intermediate. Winning Intermediate opens Veteran, while owning a Classic car opens Amazing Oldies. The Intermediate season also awards Kestrel Classic. There are no entry fees. A completed season pays its displayed reward, while individual completed matches also provide cash and rank experience. Restarting or leaving an unfinished match does not create a result or award currency.

The garage contains nine original bodies. Rook is a balanced crossover, Vesper is a low coupe, and Ramble is a compact rally car. Zip is a short hatchback, Longshore an extended estate, and Hauler a pickup with an open cargo bed. Dune adds a wide exposed cage, Kestrel a classic roadster silhouette, and Convoy a tall van cabin. Their wheel spacing and collision dimensions follow their body profiles. Preview any body before buying it. Rank and cash unlock the cars, or earned cogs can purchase a body at any rank. Six free paint choices change your team’s colour treatment without affecting the ball or collision rules. Earned cogs purchase amber or mint boost exhaust, while the blue exhaust is available from the start. The result screen records your own goals, assists, demolitions and match points alongside the other drivers. Your best match points, total matches, wins, currency, XP, owned cars, paint, exhaust, settings and league table are stored locally when browser storage is available. An unfinished live match is not restored after a page reload.

The stadium, vehicles, panels, seating, spectators, goal frames and turf are drawn from original editable geometry and textures. The match runs at a fixed 120 simulation steps per second, and the picture is blended between steps so motion stays smooth on 60, 90, 120 and 144 Hz screens. The game adjusts rendering detail when slower frames persist, while the match simulation continues with the same rules; at low detail, or when your device asks for reduced motion, the crowd stays seated and the blasts become a short flash without camera shake. Desktop keyboard controls and a touch joystick are both supported. Touch players can hold the driving stick while pressing boost, jump or slide with other fingers, and the boost pad shows the tank as a ring. The player menu above the game offers full screen and an exit, and the in-game pause menu stops the match when you need to check controls or leave the pitch.

Drive the ball

Hold jump to rise higher, jump again in the air, or flip into the ball for a harder shot. Each hit sends the ball along the line through the car and ball, so the angle of your approach aims it.

A full arena match

Play one, two or three cars per side with computer teammates and opponents. The rounded arena banks continue into driveable walls, and ties go to sudden-death overtime.

Build a league run

A little help for your next high score

  • Get behind the ball before accelerating. Driving directly at it from your own attacking side can push it toward your goal.
  • Release boost before a tight turn. Fast steering needs more space, and a small controlled touch can be more useful than a full-speed impact.
  • Use a gold pad on the route back into position. Small pads return sooner, while the large orb pads in the corners and at midfield refill the whole tank.
  • Flip into the ball for a harder shot: jump, release, then press jump again with forward held as the car reaches it. Pull back during the flip to cancel its spin.
  • A wall approach needs forward speed. Keep the car pointing into the bank as the wheels follow the curve, then steer along the wall.
  • Try the forward camera when a moving ball camera makes a close manoeuvre hard to judge. Switch back when you need to find the next rebound.
  • League rewards come from completed matches and seasons. You can leave between rounds and continue the same saved table later.

Good questions

Is Axle Arena free?

Yes. Practice matches, league seasons, garage cars and paint are available free in the browser without an account or payment.

Are the other cars online players?

No. Teammates and opponents are computer drivers. Practice supports one, two or three cars per side, and league matches use three per side.

Can the car drive on the walls?

Yes. The curved banks lead into the vertical arena walls, and the tyres grip the wall while you keep driving. A wall jump pushes the car away from that surface.

How do flips, air roll and demolitions work?

Press jump twice: the second press in the air flips the car toward the direction you hold, or jumps again if you hold none. Q and E, or SLIDE with the touch stick, roll the car in the air. Reach supersonic speed with boost and drive nose-first through an opponent to demolish it.

What happens if the match is tied?

A tied match continues into sudden-death overtime. The next valid goal decides the winner.

How does a league season work?

Ten teams play nine rounds, so your team meets each other club once. Results update the saved table. Beginners requires a top-three finish to open Intermediate. Veteran requires first place in Intermediate, and Amazing Oldies requires a Classic car. Each season pays its displayed completion reward.

What is saved after reloading?

Completed match records, your best points, currency, rank XP, owned cars, paint, preferences and league standings are saved locally when storage is available. An unfinished live match is not restored.

Why did a hit against the goal not count?

The ball must pass completely through the opening. Goalposts and the crossbar are solid, so a ball that strikes the frame can rebound back into play.
